CHRISTINA BANBAN'S WORK COMBINES ELEMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH MODERNIST EUROPEAN FIGURATION WITH TRACES OF GESTURAL ABSTRACTION.
CRISTINA BANBAN is known for striking PORTRAITS of RUBENESQUE figures. Inspired by NEOCLASSICAL physiques, these semi-autobiographical paintings present singular visions of the nude body. BANBAN WORKS IN OILS, ACRYLICS, PASTELS, AND CHARCOAL. HER MODELS DISTINCTLY ROUNDED BODIES SEEM TO SPILL FROM their CANVASES. THE POSES AND RELATIONSHIPS of her figures REFLECT EMOTIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL STATES, EXPLORing THEMEs of INTIMACY and NOSTALGIa.BanBan received her BFA in 2010 from the University of Barcelona and has since garnered international acclaim with solo exhibitions in London, Barcelona, Basel, Berlin, and New York City.
