Biography

Bel Fullana's artistic flow is made predominantly of improvision. She creates a contrast between the mature subjects and the naive childlike characters leaving interpretation up to the viewer.

BEL FULLANA EXPLORES THE CULTURE OF EXHIBITIONISM AND WANDERLUST IN PAINTINGS AND WORKS ON PAPER THAT CONSIDER THE CONSTRUCTED NATURE OF TOURIST DESTINATIONS AND SOCIAL MEDIA IMAGERY. OFTEN FEATURING HYPERSEXUALIZED YOUNG WOMEN, THE ARTIST’S FAUX-NAÏF WORKS DEPICT SEXUALLY EXPLICIT SCENES ALONGSIDE KITSCHY MOTIFS LIKE AIRBRUSHED BEACH TOWELS AND PALM TREES. BORN IN MALLORCA, SPAIN, FULLANA STUDIED FINE ARTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF BARCELONA, TEACHING HERSELF TO PAINT WITH BOTH HANDS. HER RIGHT-HANDED WORK EVINCES A MORE REALISTIC STYLE, WHEREAS HER LEFT-HANDED WORKS ARE RENDERED IN A CRUDER, CHILDLIKE MANNER. FULLANA’S PAST SHOWS INCLUDE A SOLO EXHIBITION AT CENTRE CULTURAL ANDRATX (2012), AND EUROPEAN GROUP EXHIBITIONS AT ES BALUARD MUSEU D’ART MODERN I CONTEMPORANI DE PALMA (2014), CENTRO DE ARTE CAJA DE BURGOS (2019), AND SPAZIO AMANITA (2021). SHE RECEIVED THE CIUTAT DE PALMA AWARD FOR VISUAL ARTS, CONVENED BY THE MALLORCAN CITY OF PALMA, IN 2017.SHE HAS EXHIBITED INTERNATIONALLY THROUGH SOLO AND GROUP EXHIBITIONS IN BERLIN, LONDON, LOS ANGELES, NEW YORK, MÉXICO, BRAZIL, SANTIAGO DE CHILE, SIDNEY, SEOUL, TAIWAN, ROTTERDAM, ATHENS, DENMARK, PORTUGAL AND SPAIN. HER WORK CAN BE FOUND IN PRIVATE COLLECTIONS THROUGHOUT EUROPE, ASIA AND THE UNITED STATES AND HAS BEEN RECENTLY INCLUDED IN ES BALUARD CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM OF MALLORCA.
