Hunt Slonem: Oil paintings
“Joy is precisely what we need right now. People gravitate to art because of the joy that comes out of it. In times of trouble, we turn to art, and we see art’s true value.”
- Hunt Slonem
Hunt Slonem is a printmaker, sculptor, writer, entrepreneur, historic preservationist, and painter who’s work is featured in respected museums around the world. His eccentric style can be categorized as American Neo-Expressionism, inspired by the pop art movement and artists such as Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso.
Slonem is the first artist to utilize both ends of the paintbrush, pioneering an artistic method he calls “cross-hatching,” a contemporary take on sgraffito “to scratch.” He draws inspiration from the beauty of nature and the world around him. He depicts multiples of the same subject in a loosely composed grid, rendered with gestural brushstrokes and a witty sense of humor.
Hunt Slonem’s work is immediately distinguishable. His unique use of color and various styles of mark making to depict iconic subjects is like no other. Arton Contemporary is proud to exhibit a diverse collection of one of a kind oil paintings by Hunt Slonem.
